About Mitzi & Theobald
Mitzi & Theobald started with a simple idea: what if 20+ years of travelling, nearly 60 countries, thousands of photographs, flavours, colours, curious little discoveries and a ridiculous number of stories could become adventures for children?
Created and written by Sarolta Gerecz, the series is inspired by real journeys she and her husband László have taken around the world — from ancient cities and jungle trails to busy markets, tiny villages, traditions, local food, unexpected mishaps and the small details people remember long after a trip is over.
Sarolta is a Hungarian-born traveller, hobby photographer, designer and lifelong maker who has always been curious about history, myths, how people live, what they eat, what they create and the stories they tell.
Those experiences eventually found their way into the world of Mitzi & Theobald.
Why Mitzi & Theobald?
Because the book series helps children discover the world in a way that feels fun, personal and full of curiosity - exploring should never feel like homework.
Each adventure mixes real travel photographs with stories, fun facts, local food, simple recipes to try,
colourful crafts to make, myths, traditions and everyday life.
Some places may already feel familiar. Others may be somewhere a child has never heard of before.
That’s all part of the adventure.
Mitzi always has the plan.
Theobald always has the map.
But sometimes neither of them has any idea what is going to happen next.
Which is usually when the best adventures begin.
